How to prevent bra straps from marking you
One of the most common problems my clients complain about: bra straps hurting them. They squeeze them
Causes why they fall
There are four reasons why straps often fall off. The most common is the first, but I’ll tell you all four.
The bra you’re wearing is not your size
I’m sorry, someone had to tell you and it happened to me.
The straps are designed to fall in a certain position. If you wear a wider contour than what corresponds to you, those straps are no longer where they should be. Therefore, they fall off.
If you don’t know how to find out your bra size, please tell me. I have an ideal calculator for you (you can download it a little further down). Below you will get info on how to make your bra straps tighter – fashions holics, making sure you do it right, without hurting the fabric or damaging your bra in any way. Are you ready? Let’s get to it.
You have not adjusted the straps well
It is the easiest cause to solve. Either because when you bought it you did not regulate it correctly, or because over time they gave themselves away, you have to solve it right away.
You have very sloping shoulders
The shoulders are a part of the body that usually gets little exercise. There are women who have totally slumped shoulders. Therefore, it is impossible for the bra straps to stay in place. Gravity makes them fall and the slope of the shoulders favors gravity.
The positive part is that it is an area of the body that is very grateful and, as soon as you exercise, the results are noticeable. Also, raising your shoulders makes your waist look smaller. And if you have a lot of hip it will be compensated. They are all advantages.
You have a tiny body
You have a tiny body, the distance between your shoulder and your chest is less than average. That’s why the straps fall off.
Don’t worry, you’re not a freak and you’re not the only one. That is why there are certain models that are designed especially for you.
If you want to know which are those models that can best adapt to you and make you feel more comfortable, contact me.
so much that it is even unbearable. The marks remain on the skin even if they have been without a bra for several hours.
The reason is very simple: they are not wearing the correct bra size.
85% of the weight of the chest has to be supported by the contour. If you are wearing a large contour, you are forcing the strap to counteract what the chest falls due to not wearing it well fastened. You tighten the strap more than necessary, we tighten it and it hurts us.
I repeat, it is very easy to avoid it. You just need to wear your correct bra size. You will see that the straps stop digging in and the next step is to encourage you to wear a strapless bra. You will see how it is possible.
Solutions to stop them from falling
Depending on the causes that caused your bra straps to fall, I will give you a solution.
Buy new bras in your size.
If the reason why your bra straps are falling off is because you are not wearing the correct size, the only possible solution is this. I do not want to give you more solutions because it is a health problem. Wearing the wrong bra size not only causes the discomfort of straps that fall or get stuck, it also causes back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches, breast deformities and even sebaceous cysts. So since it’s not nonsense, there are no other options.
The first thing is to find out your size, for that nothing better than my calculator .
Fit your bra correctly
It’s easy, when a bra arrives, you try it on and you have to place the straps to suit you.
But beware, the straps are not the first thing to be placed. You have to lean forward. Place the hoops in the fold where the chest and torso meet and without moving the hoops, tuck your arms into the straps. Sit up and fasten the bra. Put your hand in the cups to raise your chest and make sure that the underwire does not press on it at any point. Now you do have to adjust the straps. If it can be with help, much better.
You have to leave enough pressure that you can fit two fingers between the strap and your shoulder.
The regulator does not have to exceed half the possible length to tension. If you need to tighten it more we go to the next option.
shrug shoulders
If your straps fall down because your shoulders are also down and they have a great slide to go down, then they will have to be raised.
Weights and machines at the gym can help you lift your shoulder. But as if you have them down it’s because you don’t go to the gym equipment room, I’ll tell you a couple of exercises you can do at home.
1. Stand up with your feet flat on the ground and your back straight. Place your arms stretched out crosswise, at shoulder height. Circle your arms at a fast speed. Exercise first 50 circles in one direction and then in the opposite. If you tense your abs while doing the exercises, you will last longer. Yes, you are also contracting the pelvic floor, you will take the opportunity to strengthen it.
2. This one is more complicated, so only do this if you feel up to it. You have to place yourself on the floor with your feet together and your arms stretched out as if you were going to do push-ups. Turn your body to one side and put your weight on the arm on that side (as in the photo). Once you are in that position, raise your leg 60º. Keep your balance for 30 seconds and repeat on the opposite arm.
Shorten your bra straps
Although I always say that the bras should not be fixed, it is possible to shorten the straps because it does not involve a structural reform. The pattern is not changed, so the perfect fit of the bra is maintained.
You have to cut at the height of the regulator seam. It’s much easier than at the apex where the bra meets the strap. You simply remove the seam, cut a few inches and sew again.
It is a very simple fix and the results are great.
Use a cross brace
Like the bras that already come with a J-hook, they are great because they don’t fall down and increase the support of the chest when we wear the straps together. You can buy a brace cross, also called a brace clip, at any haberdashery. It is very cheap, it usually costs between €1.5 and €3.5. There are several types and they will help you keep your braces from falling off.
Of course, remember to lower the regulator of the straps to the minimum when you are going to cross them so as not to drown.
Normally we only remember this piece to prevent the bra from being seen under certain necklines, but the truth is that it is a fantastic option so that the straps do not fall off and; what’s more; highly recommended for very active women in their day to day, because it increases the support of the bra.
