Amazon Plans To Create 1 Million Jobs In India By 2025

Amazon India announced their plans to create over 1 million new direct and indirect jobs in India by 2025. And with Amazon’s reputation as the best employer in the world, the target does not look far-fetched. As a matter of fact, the ecommerce giant has already created more than 700,000 jobs in the country since 2013.

Amazon is working towards creating new jobs through continuous investments in technology, infrastructure and its logistics network. Here is what Jeff Bezos said, “We are investing to create a million new jobs here in India over the next five years. We’ve seen huge contributions from our employees, extraordinary creativity from the small businesses we’ve partnered with, and great enthusiasm from the customers who shop with us—and we’re excited about what lies ahead.”

As we all know, the Indian government is also pushing job creation and skill development, especially in rural areas, with the goal of training more than 400 million people by 2022. Amazon’s plan and commitment to uplift traders and MSMEs further add to the government’s efforts to create more job opportunities for Indian people and expand their skill sets.

Here is what you need to know about Amazon’s investments and how they will help in creating new jobs:

  • Amazon is providing employment in various roles such as software development engineering, cloud computing, content creation and customer support.
  • Amazon India’s new campus building in Hyderabad is the largest working space globally in terms of employee capacity (15,000) and space (9.5 acres).
  • Increasing growth opportunities for a large number of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses with various initiatives such as Amazon Karigar, Saheli, Local Storefronts, I Have Space, etc.
  • Amazon plans to invest US $1 billion to digitise 10 million MSMEs and help them in growing by selling to a global audience.
  • The Amazon India employee base has grown by more than 4 times since 2014.
  • The ecommerce giant is investing heavily in skill-building initiatives such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, Amazon Seller training modules, AWS Educate cloud computing certification, AI/ML certifications, etc.

We can expect more growth in Amazon employee statistics in India as Amazon’s reputation of being a great place to work attracts thousands of people. In Linkedin’s Best Companies in India to work list, Amazon ranked #2, further bolstering its reputation.

Amazon India’s Initiatives For MSMEs

A large number of small businesses in India are still not a part of the digital economy and rely on traditional selling methods. Amazon’s Digital Haats aims to help these businesses by offering support in e-commerce onboarding, imaging and cataloguing, warehouse space, logistics, digital marketing and compliance.

Amazon is also working on its Amazon Easy and “I Have Space” programs to help people generate a dependable income source.

Here is how Amazon is creating opportunities for MSMEs across India:

Enabling Digital Businesses

Amazon’s programs, such as Saheli and Karigar, continue to help MSMEs build their online presence and sell to a global audience.

Making It Easy To Sell Globally

A large number of local shops, manufacturers, resellers and brands are benefiting from selling to a global audience through the Amazon Global Selling program. Amazon is continuously investing in best-in-class logistics solutions like Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) to improve the experience and efficiency of the ecosystem. The company wants to ensure that businesses of all sizes can seamlessly reach customers globally.

Growing Income By Partnering With Amazon

Today, local businesses and stores can easily partner with Amazon programs such as “I Have Space” and Amazon Easy to generate additional income using their existing space. Amazon’s logistic programs are helping thousands of Indians earn a living.

Maximising Business Efficiency

Amazon India offers specialised Amazon Web Services (AWS) tailored for MSMEs so that they can also benefit from the latest cloud technology at an affordable price. Amazon Web Services enable businesses to scale up or down easily as per the demand.

Amazon’s goal is to build a sustainable environment that supports the growth of MSMEs, creates job opportunities, fosters innovation and skill development and helps MSMEs reach global customers.
