How to Find Deleted Comments on Reddit

Reddit is an online social media forum where millions of people gather to discuss nearly anything imaginable – from breaking news to fandoms, life hacks, sports and the web’s cutest animals.

Reddit has long been associated with adult-oriented content and subreddits dedicated to hate speech and violence; this may make some users wary about their privacy.

How to Find Deleted Comments on Reddit

Once a comment is deleted from Reddit, it becomes inaccessible and can only be seen by administrators. But you can use some simple tactics to locate deleted comments on Reddit.

Wayback Machine is an archive service that stores screenshots of websites over time, making it possible to trace deleted comments back to when they first appeared in posts and to locate them using screenshots from that time period. All it takes to use this approach successfully is shifting back the date of that post that contains said comment before searching screenshots for its presence.

Reveddit can also assist in finding deleted comments; similar to Unddit, but with an additional feature: it displays deleted posts from a specific thread.

To use it, copy and paste the URL of a Reddit post that contains your deleted comment into Reveddit’s search bar – this will then load its archive of archived material containing that content.

Wayback Machine

Once a post or comment has been deleted from Reddit, it can no longer be accessed directly; however, internet archive Wayback Machine may still have a copy available of it. Simply copy its original Reddit URL and search for it using an older date to see an archived version of its page.

There are various websites that enable users to find deleted posts and comments on Reddit. Some are more effective than others; many tools are only accessible to members of specific subreddits; other tools, like Unddit and Reveddit require registration; Unddit in particular offers powerful viewing features for lost content by caching posts quickly then bringing them back later, while Reveddit allows for the recovery of deleted comments by moderators or users alike.

Google Cache

While less powerful, Google Cache offers another means of viewing deleted comments on Reddit. Google crawls the internet quickly, and old copies of Reddit posts and comments might still exist within their cache — even after having been removed from Reddit itself.

To use this approach, go directly to the Reddit post you want to retrieve and copy its URL. Next, visit a search engine website and paste in that URL into its search bar; when results come back click “cached,” and Google will provide a snapshot of that site when Google bots visited.

Google may delete its cached copies if a page changes significantly or there are significant hosting company issues; so if you want to be absolutely sure you will be able to view deleted content, alternative methods should work just as effectively for you.

Reveddit

Reveddit is an online tool that makes it easy to locate deleted comments on Reddit. Utilizing web crawlers, Reveddit archives old content before presenting it in an old Reddit-esque interface for browsing. Simply enter a subreddit name and date range when searching for deleted content.

This site is completely free to use and works by displaying deleted comments from Reddit threads, using color coding to differentiate between moderator-removed comments and those deleted by users, along with their username. It can be an engaging way of passing time while browsing Reddit, though its features have some restrictions.

Site does not display deleted posts from subreddits that have become private, however you can use an add-on called Removeddit to view deleted content from Reddit (although this extension has its own issues, having stopped working sometime around 2021) as well as Wayback Machine’s service to view these.

Reddit users have recently expressed their puzzlement over a mysterious sequence of numbers they are witnessing being displayed after deleted comments are erased; many speculate as to its source and speculate on possible bugs within Reddit’s codebase.

Why is this number being used on Reddit?

Reddit users have been left confused by the appearance of an apparently random number (2131953663) in deleted comments, prompting speculation it may be related to website coding or even closer ties as Reddit has an office in Los Angeles; should this be the case, then the number will likely not disappear anytime soon.
