The Punjab Safe City (PSC) project will also be extended to Murree, Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar, said during a meeting in Commissioner Rawalpindi’s office.
At the meeting, CM Punjab said that centrally connected CCTV cameras will be installed all over Murree, which will not only play an important role in regulating traffic but also improve the public order situation.
He arranged for PSC to provide additional funds for the operational purposes of the project in the coming weeks and instructed PSC to complete the project as quickly as possible.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, provincial ministers Raja Basharat, Fayyaz Al Hassan Chauhan, Malik Anwar, Raja Rashid Hafeez, Yasir Humayun and Yawar Bukhari also attended the meeting.
The development comes more than a month after more than 20 tourists were stranded in their vehicles asphyxiated during the relentless snowfall in Murree during the first week of January.
A high-level commission of inquiry concluded that negligence by 15 officials resulted in the Murree snowfall tragedy, with CM Punjab suspending them all.
