First, you need to think about why you want to memorize Qur’an. Do you hope it will lead to better prayer habits, an improved relationship with God, or both? These are two big reasons for memorizing Qur’an, and there are benefits for both approaches. If your desire is to use your new skills to pray better and more often, then memorizing in units of a few verses at a time would be best.

Why Are There Different Ways of Memorizing the Qur’an?

There are many different ways of memorizing the Qur’an, and it can be a little confusing at first as to why there are so many different methods. For example, some schools of thought recommend rote memorization while others focus on meaning.

So, what’s better and why? And how do you even decide which method is right for you in your situation? It all depends on your own personal needs, but here are a few guidelines to get you started. Physical Methods (Hafs, qiraat)

First, there are different physical methods of memorization, which can be divided into two categories: qira’at and hafs. Qira’at (plural) is Arabic for recitation, while hafs (plural) refers to what is translated to as parts in English. In essence, a part is simply a subdivision of the Qur’an.

A Qur’an is what we refer to as a recitation in English. A person who has memorized an entire book will often say that they have done so by way of 7, 10, or 20 parts. These numbers refer to how many subdivisions exist within each chapter (surah).

For example, if you were trying to learn Surat Al-Baqarah from memory, you would break it down into 7 parts because it has seven chapters (surahs). If you were trying to learn Surat Al-Kafirun with its one chapter, you would break it down into 1 part because it only has one surah.

Conclusion

Not knowing how to memorize Quran is one of many difficulties faced by people who wish to achieve success in their deen. No matter what method is used, those who are persistent and patient in trying will succeed eventually. The aforementioned tips are easy to implement and will be effective if diligently followed. May Allah gives us success in our deen and guide us all to that which He loves and which pleases Him.
