4 Things To Do Before A Home Inspection

If you are planning to sell your home and have already found a buyer, it is probably time that you prepare your home for an inspection. Once the buying price and all other terms are settled for, the final sale of your home is largely dependent on an inspection.

A home inspection typically occurs after the purchase agreement has been signed for and before the closing date of the sale, with the sale usually contingent on the inspection. Therefore, you should be careful that the inspection goes as smoothly as possible, and hence, given below are four things you should be looking after:

  1. Clear the exterior and interior

The very first thing you should be doing is clearing the exterior and the interior of your home. The exterior of your home forms the first impression in the mind of the inspector, and a positive or negative impression is likely to follow through the remaining inspection.

For the exterior,  check for any caulking around the windows, clear trash cans, trim grass, and stow away any junk lying around. For the interior, clear any clutter that impedes or hampers access to different areas of the home.

  1. Check for plumbing issues

Plumbing can be a serious issue for most buyers, and hence out of all the aspects of your home, pay the most attention to your home’s plumbing. Check whether your drains are well-functioning, as improper drains tend to cause a stagnant smell in your home’s interior. Any ill-functioning drains should be subjected to professional drain cleaning before an inspection.

You should also check whether or not your toilets are functioning properly, and whether they run for a long time after every flush. This is a small and inexpensive repair work that takes minutes to fix and hence shouldn’t be played out.

  1. Clean your roof

Anyone looking for homes for sale tends to pay close attention to the roof of the home they are considering, as roofs can be pretty expensive to repair or replace. Hence, before an inspection, you should pay close attention to the condition of your roof. You may choose to call for professional help or get your hands dirty yourself.

If you choose to clean your roof yourself, get a ladder and a trusted pair of gloves. Clean out any stubborn growth of moss, and pick up any debris on the roof’s surface. Check for any missing or damaged tiles, and get them fixed as soon as possible.

  1. Replace old bulbs and check the fuse box

Replacing old bulbs is a maintenance job that isn’t likely to take much of your time but is going to greatly help your home’s overall appeal. Blown-out bulbs indicate that your home’s wiring is faulty. Hands, be sure to look for and replace all the bulbs that do not work around your home. You should also make sure that all the bulbs in your home are uniform in color.

while replacing old bolts also take a look at your fuse box. A fuse box that does not have labels and hence cannot be read properly tends to frustrate inspectors. Hence check whether each switch in the fuse box is labeled correctly, and if not, replace labels as needed.
